Above (left) is me at the beginning of this book’s writing process. Above (right) is me at the end.

Only joking, of course. That’s a filter. Though, at some point in the last twelve months, I have sprouted a singular gray hair that I am closely monitoring. I will keep you posted.

What the back of the book will say:

What happens when a man falls in love for the first time? When he must be vulnerable and exposed for his love to flourish? And how, when intimacy beckons, does his conditioning ignite an instinct to withdraw? In interweaving vignettes, Eyal Cohen seeks out answers as he depicts the experience of falling in love amidst the complexities of contemporary masculinity.

Set against the backdrop of his life as a millennial in New York City, Cohen’s budding romance with “L” offers a fresh take on the risks and rewards of intimacy and love. Cohen gives readers an unabashed and nuanced perspective on the young male experience today, encouraging men to reexamine how they do, or do not, communicate. Take the L provides the space and language for meaningful conversations for those looking to better understand the men in their lives—whether they be friends, partners, colleagues, or family.

By laying out how his relationship blossomed and then unraveled, Cohen illustrates how love serves as a container for both our deepest wounds and our biggest transformations. The book calls us to consider how we learn about love from those we know, those we observe, and those who ultimately come to define the word itself.
